Learning and Teaching Laboratory
The Laboratory for Learning and Teaching was established on July 8, 2019, by the Faculty of Teacher Education in Rijeka Council as an organizational unit of the Department of Educational Sciences. Darko Lončarić, the associate professor, was appointed the first director of the newly established laboratory and he held this position until September 2024.LABORATORY ACTIVITIES
Following the Regulations on Internal Organization of the Faculty of Teacher Education in Rijeka, the Laboratory was established primarily to conduct scientific and professional research and projects and perform the applied and demonstration part of work in learning and teaching research. The long-term work plan of the Laboratory includes:
- Cooperation with partners based on signed contracts and letters of interest for cooperation.
- Establishment of information and communication infrastructure necessary for research, development, application, and publication of learning and teaching research activities.
- Continuous work on the development of human resources through project applications, education in methodology, applied statistics, and relevant activities in learning and teaching research and practice.
- Cooperation with experts and institutions related to education in activities and projects that require professional and scientific measurement instruments including expertise in methodological aspects of development and evaluation research.
- Participation in initiatives to develop and evaluate innovative forms of learning environments such as community learning centres, self-regulated and self-directed learning, and unconventional pathways and approaches to education.
- Development of new measuring instruments and conducting training for the application of existing measuring instruments relevant to education.
COMPLIANCE WITH THE MISSION AND VISION OF THE FACULTY
Methodological and professional competencies of students and associates will be further developed through their activities in the Laboratory. In cooperation with educational institutions, the Laboratory will be based on scientific achievements in educational sciences and contribute to achieving excellence in student education. Also, Laboratory aims to improve the Faculty's activities in achieving high academic standards and actively taking full responsibility for the quality and advancement of teaching and research.
INTERDISCIPLINARY WORK
Due to its focus on the general field of learning and teaching, the Laboratory mainly performs activities in educational and social sciences. Considering the highly interdisciplinary character of research, the Laboratory welcomes the collaboration of experts in scientific work, associates and teaching professionals from psychology, pedagogy, interdisciplinary field of science and educational sciences, and branches of science related to methods of teaching subject specific didactics. The Laboratory represents a flexible framework for activities facilitating the organization of employees' work from different scientific fields and helping associates from various fields and branches of educational profession.
COOPERATION WITH EXTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS
In the interdisciplinary learning and teaching process, cooperation with external stakeholders is based on modern research and higher education trends. It aims to strengthen scientific research capacity and collaboration with experts from different professions. In this sense, the Laboratory associates are also practitioners, employees of other University departments, and other scientific or educational institutions in the country and abroad. In these situations, the Laboratory acts as an organizational unit of the Department that encourages cross-sectoral and inter-institutional cooperation and development.
